How To Stay Alive is a proof-of-concept narrative short that follows a group of friends pursuing their dream of breaking into the professional music industry. Designed as the foundation for a larger cinematic project, the film explores ambition, friendship, and the sacrifices behind creative success.
Filmed across seven locations throughout Jacksonville, Florida, the production spanned two consecutive weeks and brought together an intimate crew of five filmmakers alongside a large cast, including more than 50 extras for its most ambitious sequence. Captured in REDCODE RAW on the RED Komodo 6K, the project was produced with a budget of over $30,000, emphasizing a cinematic approach to independent filmmaking.
One of the film's most technically demanding achievements was its large-scale party sequence, which featured an eight-fixture DMX-controlled moving lighting system programmed specifically for the production. The sequence required a continuous 28-hour shooting day, making it the most ambitious and logistically complex part of the entire project.
The film serves as a proof of concept for future feature-length development, demonstrating the visual language, production value, and storytelling potential envisioned for the full-scale project.
